The Giants purchased the contract of P Brad Penny from Fresno today (June 29), placing P Shane Loux on the DL (retroactive to June 26) with a neck strain. Penny is assigne #31.
To make room for Penny on the 40-man, the Giants transferred P Eric Surkamp to the 60-day DL. He had been on the 15-day DL all season long.
Another minor move, the Giants officially optioned P Dan Runzler (thus activating him from the DL) on June 27. Runzler had been on the DL since the start of the year. This also means Runzler joins the Grizzlies 25-man roster, as opposed to being exempted by being on a rehab assignment (Penny's recall opens up the spot for Runzler, whose reporting date was listed as TBD).
Following the Giants organizational transactions from MLB to rookie ball. And other things. Tracked by David Taub.

No more Grizzlies Ferris wheel
The 80-foot Ferris wheel that was supposed to be turning all season long on the concourse beyond right field is no more.
World Amusements, Inc., which operated the wheel and other rides, removed them during the last Grizzlies road trip. A source with the company, who did not want their name revealed because they are not authorized to speak about company business, tells Taub Sports that the rides were planned to be removed this time anyway for fairs in northern California and Nevada.
However, they will not return as a matter of finances. "(The profits) just weren't there," says the company source.
The Grizzlies heavily hyped the fact that the arcade would be a season long feature. The team is mum on its removal.

Grizzlies moves
A few roster moves to catch up with the Grizzlies:
-P Dan Runzler joined the team last week on a rehab assignment. He is wearing #40.
-P Andrew Kown was activated from the DL on June 24. That move brings the team back to 25 players (plus Runzler), as P Brian Burres went on the DL June 20.

Christian up; Huff on DL
Perhaps the Perfect Game celebration was a bit too much for 1B/OF Aubrey Huff.
The Giants placed the veteran on the DL with a knee hurt during Wednesday's celebration of Matt Cain's flawless gem. It is retroactive to June 11, the day after the last time Huff played.
To take his place, the team purchased the contract of OF Justin Christian. This is Christian's second stint with San Francisco, having played with the team last September. He was designated for assignment during the off-season, but remained with the club.
The Giants have not announced their corresponding move on the 40-man roster to clear room for Christian. My guess is transferring one of the players on the 15-day DL since the beginning of the year (Surkamp, Runzler or Sanchez) to the 60-day DL.
For Fresno, C Tyler LaTorre magically remains with the team, even though the transaction wire on 6/14 listed him as going on the DL. Today, with the Christian promotion, that move disappeared from the record.

Sanford back to San Jose [UPDATE]
The Giants assigned P Shawn Sanford from AAA Fresno to A+ San Jose. The expected corresponding move is the activation of P Steve Edlefsen, who was optioned from the majors on June 9.
We'll see who wears #25: Edlefsen (his number before being recalled) or P Jason Stevenson, who was promoted from Richmond after Edlefsen left, and has been wearing it since [Sanford also wore #25 in the interim as well, before taking #26].
UPDATE: Edlefsen is wearing #28 (last worn by C Eric Sim).

Yourkin activated
The Grizzlies activated P Matt Yourkin before Sunday's game from the DL.
Yourkin takes the roster spot of P George Kontos (who is wearing #70 with the Giants). P Steve Edlefsen was optioned down to Fresno, but has yet to report (by rule, he has up to 72 hours to report, so he can hold off until Tuesday). So, the team will have to make another move when Edlefsen is ready.

Grizzlies Baby Boom
The reason Todd Linden was placed on the temporary inactive list is that he and his wife are expecting a child. Todd left to go to Seattle to welcome a new one to the world.
Linden is the third Grizzly this year to welcome a child. C Eli Whiteside and P Andrew Kown both took time off as well earlier this year.

More Grizzlies & Giants moves
In addition to the Giants activating 3B Pablo Sandoval from the DL and optioning Brett Pill, the team also optioned P Steve Edlefsen and recalled P George Kontos.
The Grizzlies, to make room for Pill, placed 1B/OF Todd Linden on the temporary inactive list.
Pill will wear #50 with Fresno. No word on what Edlefsen will wear. Earlier this season, he wore #25 before his recall to San Francisco. Right now, P Jason Stevenson assumed #25. Also, with Sandoval gone, P Mitch Lively returned to wearing #48, from #45.

Pablo up, Pill down
The Giants announced after Friday's game that 3B Pablo Sandoval has been activated and INF/OF Brett Pill has been optioned back to Fresno.
Sandoval hit two homers in his rehab start for Fresno on Friday. He left the game after the sixth inning, presumably to pack his bags and head north.
The Grizzlies will have to make a corresponding roster move to make room for Pill. Tyler LaTorre, anyone?

Panda time
Pablo Sandoval arrived for rehab starting Tuesday night. It is believed to be a three-game stay (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday- off day on Wednesday).
Sandoval is wearing #48. According to B.J. Anteola of the Fresno Bee, P Mitch Lively, who was wearing #48, switched to #45.

Panda to Fresno soon
Henry Schulman of the SF Chronicle reports that Pablo Sandoval could be in Fresno for his Triple-A rehab as soon as Tuesday...
Penny Grizzlies debut delayed
The Giants on their website say Brad Penny's 2012 debut with Fresno will have to wait. He was penciled in as Monday's starter. That will now go to Shawn Sanford. No roster moves were made either way.
