Giants trade and other moves

On Tuesday, the Giants traded OF Nate Schierholtz, along with minor leaguers C Tommy Joseph and P Seth Rosin.

No 40-man move was neccesary because it was an excange of men on the 40-man roster.

The Giants have not activated Pence yet, instead recalling 1B Brett Pill from AAA Fresno. The Giants will have to make a move tomorrow when Pence arrives (likely placing 1B/OF Aubrey Huff on the DL again).

On Thursday, C Hector Sanchez is eligible to be activated from the DL, percipitating another transaction (sending down Pill, C Eli Whiteside or OF Justin Christian are options).

The Grizzlies have not announced a corresponding move.

Actually, Scutaro is #19

New Giants INF Marco Scutaro is wearing #19, retaining his number from Colorado. No. 19 used to belong to pitching coach Dave Righetti, who switched to #33.

This is the second time Righetti has ceded #19. In 2006, he gave it up for INF Kevin Frandsen. That time, Righetti switched to #46.

Culberson traded for Scutaro; correspnding moves

The Giants traded 2B Charlie Culberson (playing in Fresno) Friday night to Colorado for INF Marco Scutaro.

This leaves the 40-man roster in tact.

Giants moves: in addition to adding Scutaro (who will wear #10), the team also activated 1B/OF Aubrey Huff. The team placed 3B Pablo Sandovalo on the DL and designated for assignment INF Emmanuel Burriss.

The Giants have 10 days to either trade or release Burriss. He can also accept a minor league assignment or free agency.

The Grizzlies meanwhile activated OF Francisco Peguero from the DL to take Culberson's spot.

Culberson was pulled from the game in the bottom of the 4th for a pinch hitter.

According to the Rockies website, Culberson will report to AAA Colorado Springs. Coincidentally, that is where Fresno starts a series tonight. No word if Culberson still flew with the team to Colorado Springs this morning.

Huff starts rehabbing with Fresno

On Monday, the Giants sent 1B Aubrey Huff to Fresno for rehab. He has not been assigned a number yet.

Also, P Boof Bonser will wear #47. Matt Yourkin normally dons that number, but it looks like he will vacate it while he is on the DL.

Grizzlies moves: swap outfielders; Boof is back

Over the All-Star Break, the Grizzlies (Giants) sent down OF Devin Harris (after one game) to A+ Augusta, and called up OF Ryan Lollis from A+ San Jose. He will wear #31. This is his first trip to AAA after being drafted in the 37th round by San Francisco in 2009.

Also, P Matt Yourkin is on the DL. Boof Bonser, the Giants first round pick in 2000, is back with the organization. Bonser ws traded in the 2003 off season in the ill-fated A.J. Pierzynski trade. He has since pitched with the Twins and Red Sox. He signed with the Giants organizaton and pitched six games this year for the Arizona Rookie League team. He has not been assigned a number yet.
