The Giants made some roster moves on Friday, and the trickle down effects is that Ryan Vogelsong will start the year with the Grizzlies as their opening day starter April 5 at Tucson, according to the SF Chronicle.
However, Vogelsong will be doing so on Major League rehab, not as a minor leaguer. The Giants made five roster moves Friday: releasing INF Mike Fontenot, and placing Vogelsong, fellow pitchers Dan Runzler and Eric Surkamp, along with 2B Freddy Sanchez on the DL. All the DL moves are retroactive to March 26, meaning they are eligible to be activated on April 10.
-According to the SJ Mercury, INF Conor Gillaspie rejoins the Grizzlies. He was optioned down by the Giants.

Piping for the Giants...
From Paul Lukas' ESPN Uni Watch column:
• Fans watching the Giants on the road will notice two changes. First, the team's standard road grays now have black piping on the collar and placket. And in an unusual move, the Giants have added an alternate gray design, hearkening back to the Will Clark era. Uni Watch has always loved that look -- so much better than the clunky "San Francisco" lettering that barely fits across the chest. Here's hoping the alternate becomes the primary in a year or two.

Your Grizzlies closer is...
From Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area:
I've mentioned right-hander Dan Otero's fabulous, strike-filled spring and how he might be one of the first call-ups when the Giants need another relief arm. Well, Bochy said today that hard-throwing prospect Heath Hembree would begin the season at Triple-A Fresno and serve as the Grizzlies' closer. Otero closed for Fresno last season and would be one heck of a setup man.
That Grizzlies bullpen is going to be darn good.

Giants option two more to Fresno...
The Giants optioned P Hector Correa and OF Tyler Graham down to Fresno. Correa pitched last year with High-A San Jose and AA Richmond. Graham has been a Grizzlies mainstay over the last two years. In 2011, he set the club's single-season stolen base mark before the all-star break.
Both men are on the 40-man roster. Graham joins Roger Kieschnick among outfielders sent down by San Francisco this spring.
The Giants also assigned former Grizzlies INF Nick Noonan, P Matt Yourkin and C Jackson Williams to minor league camp. Their spring training destinations will be determined in the next few weeks.
