Giants Roster back to full 40
Catching up with the Giants transactions:
Before the Rule 5 roster deadline, the Giants added six, dropped two to bring their 40-man roster up to its complete 40 men.
Additions:
P Hector Correa
P Dan Otero
2B Charlie Culbertson
OF Tyler Graham
OF Roger Kieschnick
1B Angel Villalona
Subtractions:
OF Darren Ford
P Waldis Joaquin
both designated for assignment
Correa finished his sixth professional season (however, he did not pitch in 2009 due to an injury). He was originally selected by Florida in 2006 and traded to the Giants in March 2009 (for C Ronny Paulino). He has never pitched beyond A-ball.
Otero finished his fifth season of pro ball (Giants 21st rounder in 2007). He made it as high as Triple-A Fresno in 2011.
Culbertson finished his fifth pro season (Giants sandwich pick in 2007) and was invited to 2011 spring training.
Graham finished his sixth pro season and third with Fresno in 2011. He is a Giants 19th round pick in 2006.
Kieschnick is a 2008 third-round pick, finishing his third pro year, and second with Double-A Richmond. Technically, the Giants did not have to add Kieschnick to the 40-man in order to prevent his loss in the Rule 5 draft.
Villalona missed the 2010 and 2011 seaons because of legal trouble back in his homeland of the Dominican Republic. He is considered one of the team's top prospects.
The Giants will have to make corresponding roster moves now for any addition they make (ie trade or free agent signing).

Giants Melky info
This week, the San Francisco Giants traded for KC Royals OF Melky Cabrera. They traded P Jonathan Sanchez and minor league pitcher Ryan Verdugo.
In essence, the Giants swapped one arbitration-eligible player for another. Cabrera does not currently have a contract, but is 22 days shy of being free-agent eligible (5 years, 148 days). Thus, Cabrera is eligible for arbitration. According to Cot's Contracts, Melky earned $1.25M in a one year deal signed with Kansas City. After a productive season, he is expected to earn more.
Sanchez has five years plus service time, also arbitration eligible, but not yet a free agent. He earned $4.8M last year and did not have a productive year.
